How Gervais Dommasch Overcame the Nighttime Monsters
The Monster Under the Bed
Gervais Dommasch was a brave little boy, but he was also very scared of the dark. Every night, he would lie in bed and listen to the creaks and groans of his old house. He would imagine all sorts of monsters lurking in the shadows, just waiting to get him.
One night, Gervais's fear got the best of him. He jumped out of bed and ran to his parents' room. "There's a monster under my bed!" he cried.
Gervais's parents came to his room and looked under the bed. There was nothing there, of course. But Gervais was still scared.
"It's just your imagination," his mother said. "There's no such thing as monsters."
"But I heard it!" Gervais insisted. "It was growling at me!"
Gervais's parents tried to comfort him, but he was too scared to go back to sleep. So they let him sleep in their bed that night.
The next night, Gervais was still scared, but he was determined to face his fear. He went to bed and closed his eyes. He took a deep breath and told himself that there was nothing to be afraid of.
Suddenly, Gervais heard a noise under his bed. His heart started to race. He wanted to run away, but he remembered what his parents had told him. He took another deep breath and slowly got out of bed.
He looked under the bed, and there was nothing there. Gervais smiled. He had been right. There was nothing to be afraid of.
