Howard Lutnick: A Personal Journey
My name is Howard Lutnick, and I'm here to share my story with you. It's a story of loss, resilience, and hope.
I was born in Jericho, New York, in 1961. My father was a dentist, and my mother was a teacher. I have two older brothers, Gary and Edie.
I grew up in a loving and supportive home. My parents taught me the importance of hard work, integrity, and giving back to the community. I was always a good student, and I loved to play sports.
After graduating from high school, I attended Haverford College in Pennsylvania. I studied economics and business, and I graduated with honors in 1983.
After college, I worked as an investment banker at Salomon Brothers. In 1991, I joined Cantor Fitzgerald, a financial services firm founded by Bernard Gerald Cantor.
In 2001, tragedy struck. On September 11th, Cantor Fitzgerald lost 658 employees in the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center. My brother Gary was one of the victims.
I was devastated by the loss of my brother and my colleagues. But I knew that I had to be strong for the families of the victims and for the employees of Cantor Fitzgerald.
I worked tirelessly to rebuild Cantor Fitzgerald. I raised capital, recruited new employees, and expanded the firm's operations.
Today, Cantor Fitzgerald is one of the leading financial services firms in the world. We have over 4,000 employees in 10 countries.
I am proud of what we have accomplished at Cantor Fitzgerald. But I know that we could not have done it without the support of our clients, our employees, and the community.
I am also grateful for the support of my wife, Allison, and our four children. They have been my rock throughout this journey.
I am a strong believer in giving back to the community. I am a trustee or active participant in over 50 charitable organizations and charities.
I am also a strong supporter of education. I am a trustee of Haverford College and the Jericho School District Foundation.
I believe that everyone has the potential to make a difference in the world. I hope that my story will inspire others to never give up on their dreams, no matter how difficult the challenges may seem.
