Dear Future Residents of the Peach State:
Are the crystal flakes endangered in 2099? We are more than halfway through winter 2020, and there have been a few flakes snow. In fact, it has been a long time since a real snow day appeared, I understand that Georgia weather It didn’t even snow on Christmas last year. Winter felt like summer.
The last time it snowed was 5 years ago, and I don’t mean little snow. It was a blizzard in that Georgia had. On that day, I went to school. No one was thinking that it would snow that hard. It started off as little flakes and flurries, that felt soft to the touch. By the time school ended, the flurries and flakes turned into fine and sticky snow. Then, the snow transformed into sheets of hard, stiff ice.
Schools were closed. Therefore, my mother came my school to pick up my brother and I. It was hard to drive on the icy streets, so , but shemy mother had to leave her car. When she finally met us, picked us up, we walked home. It was not safe to even walk outside. I was slipping and sliding down the sidewalk , because of the thick foggy black ice. As I was trying to get my balance, I could see cars sliding everywhere. There were policemen pushing cars and miles of traffic congestion; it was so much going on that night. Luckily, we got home safe. That was the last time I felt real snow in Georgia, but why?
I think the major culprit is global warming. We are not concerned enough about it. We fail to realize that it is us that are is doing all the damage.
One major factor in global warming is burning fossil fuels. When we burn these things, it releases carbon dioxide. This Which eventually affects the climate, and possibly contributes to warmer winters.which is not good for us or our environment. I
It affects our plants and animals. Plants we need for our health. The animals are part of our life cycle. We are killing the planet slowly. Even though we have done a lot of damage, we can still change the planet.
Not only can it make our winters shorter but, it can also make them longer. Which will within time dramatically shift our seasons. With our season comes us and our environment. When it becomes warm too early, then plants begin to sprout. Meaning that they can be sensitive to the cold and can die out. Or it can get hot enough and create droughts. Making it harder for farmers to plant, or even destroying our natural plants in general.
We can all reduce this situation by using less energy. If everyone contributes, it will make a big difference. Start by using more wind and solar powered utilities. We can start using energy-efficient appliances. If you ever see water running down a faucet, turn it off. It takes a lot of energy to clean our water, so we will have to keep that in mind. It also won’t hurt to plant something. The plants are the ones that support life on the earth. These are simple things that we can start off by doing, if everyone contributes it will make a big difference on earth.
