Son Heung-min is expected to stay at Tottenham Hotspur despite interest from Saudi Arabia.
The UK's 'Football Insider' reported on Sept. 29 (KST) that "Tottenham will not accept any offers for Son Heung-min despite his precarious contract situation. It has also been revealed that informal discussions are already underway to confirm interest in re-signing with Spurs as his current contract is set to expire in June 2025."
"Son is also attracting interest from Saudi clubs who are keen to sign top European talent. However, a source insists Son is happy in the Premier League (PL) and still feels he is at the peak of his career. He has told those close to him that he would turn down a 'huge' offer for a move," the source added.
Transfer market expert Ekram Konur also tweeted on his social media account, "Tottenham are in advanced talks to extend captain Son Heung-min's contract. Tottenham will not sell Son despite interest from clubs in the Saudi Professional League."
Commenting on the remaining contracts of Tottenham's players, Football London wrote: "Son Heung-min is undoubtedly the most prominent name on the list of players whose contracts expire in 2025. Tottenham are believed to have an option to extend his contract for a further year," speculating on the possibility of Son re-signing.
Last season marked a major shift in the European soccer market. Ronaldo moved from Manchester United to Saudi Arabia. Middle Eastern clubs lured Ronaldo with tons of oil money, and he was followed by a host of other stars, including Karim Benzema, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, N'Golo Kante, and Neymar.
The Middle Eastern clubs didn't stop there. Liverpool's centerpiece and team ace Mohamed Salah also received a huge offer from Al Ittihad last summer. Liverpool rejected several offers, but Al Ittihad never stopped. It started out at £50 million, but when negotiations broke down, it reached a record-breaking £215 million, a sum that would surpass Liverpool's transfer market history.
For now, Salah remained with the team, but Al-Ittihad continued to pursue him, and Son Heung-min was 사설토토 mentioned alongside him. "Al-Ittihad have rekindled their interest in Mohamed Salah, but now they want to sign another Premier League superstar to pair with him, Son Heung-min," said Team Talk in the UK on April 22.
"Al-Ittihad are considering replacing Benzema in the summer and are trying to sign Salah as his replacement. However, they could also look to sign another Premier League striker once the contract of another foreign player, Jorginho, expires. The player in question is Tottenham Hotspur captain Son Heung-min, who is currently only contracted to Spurs until 2025."
"According to media sources, Son could leave Spurs if they fail to qualify for the Champions League for a second consecutive season, in which case Al Ittihad could enter the race for his signature. However, the attention has now turned to Son Heung-min. Despite reports that he wants to finish his career at Tottenham, Al Ittihad are looking to set up an attacking lineup with Son on the left side of the attack and Salah on the right."
The rumors about Son continued to flow. Transfer market expert Rudi Galletti tweeted on Friday that "Saudi negotiators have more or less finalized their priority targets for the next transfer window. De Bruyne, Salah, Son Heung-min, and Modric are believed to be the main targets and they will try to make contact in the coming weeks," revealing that the Saudis are once again interested in signing Son Heung-min.
The odds of Son Heung-min accepting the Saudi offer are significantly lower. Saudi interest was previously reported last summer. After the June A-Match, Son Heung-min said, "I still have a lot of work to do in the Premier League. (Ki) Sung-yong said before that Korea's captain doesn't go to China. Money is not important now. It's about pride in football and playing in the league I love. I want to play more with my team and in the Premier League," he said.
After a month away for the Asian Cup, Son returned to action as a substitute against Brighton last time out and promptly picked up his sixth assist of the season, setting up Brennan Johnson's goal, before returning to the starting lineup against Wolverhampton and struggling to create chances for his teammates. He will be aiming for his 12th goal of the league in the upcoming match against Crystal Palace.
