Have you ever been so scared that you thought you were going to die? I have. It was the scariest night of my life.
I was only 10 years old at the time. My parents had gone out for the evening, and I was home alone. I was watching TV in the living room when I heard a noise in the kitchen.
I got up to investigate, and as I peeked around the corner, I saw a man standing there. He was tall and thin, with a dark beard and piercing blue eyes. He was wearing a black ski mask, and he had a gun in his hand.
I screamed and ran back into the living room. The man chased after me, and I could hear his footsteps getting closer and closer. I was so scared that I thought I was going to have a heart attack.
Just when I thought I was about to die, I heard a loud noise outside. I looked out the window and saw a man standing there in the driveway. He was tall and muscular, with short brown hair and hazel eyes. He was holding a crowbar, and he was yelling at the man with the gun.
The man with the gun turned around and saw the man in the driveway. He raised his gun and fired, but the man in the driveway ducked out of the way. The man with the gun fired again, but this time the man in the driveway tackled him to the ground.
I watched in amazement as the man in the driveway beat the man with the gun unconscious. Then he got up and came to the door.
"Are you okay?" he asked.
I nodded.
"My name is Strode Long," he said. "I'm a police officer. I'm here to help you."
I was so grateful to Strode Long for saving my life that night. I don't know what would have happened if he hadn't been there. He is a true hero.
I never saw Strode Long again, but I will never forget what he did for me. He is the reason why I am alive today.
Thank you, Strode Long. You are a true hero.
