Imran Khan: The man who brought hope to Pakistan
Imran Khan is a Pakistani politician and former cricketer who served as the 22nd Prime Minister of Pakistan from August 2018 to April 2022. He is the chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party.
Khan was born in Lahore, Pakistan, on October 5, 1952. He attended Aitchison College in Lahore and then Keble College, Oxford, where he studied philosophy, politics and economics. After graduating from Oxford, Khan returned to Pakistan and began his cricket career.
Khan made his international debut for Pakistan in 1971 and went on to play in 88 Test matches and 175 One Day Internationals (ODIs). He was a successful all-rounder, scoring over 3,800 runs and taking over 350 wickets in Test cricket. He captained Pakistan to victory in the 1992 Cricket World Cup, which was the country's first and only World Cup title.
After retiring from cricket in 1992, Khan entered politics. He founded the PTI in 1996 and led the party to victory in the 2018 general election. Khan became Prime Minister of Pakistan in August 2018.
As Prime Minister, Khan implemented a number of reforms, including reducing government spending, increasing transparency and accountability, and improving the country's economy. He also launched a number of social welfare programs, such as the Ehsaas program, which provides financial assistance to poor families.
Khan's time as Prime Minister was marked by a number of challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic, the ongoing war in Afghanistan, and the country's economic crisis. Khan was also criticized for his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic and his relationship with the military.
In April 2022, Khan was removed from office by a vote of no confidence in the National Assembly. He is the first Pakistani Prime Minister to be removed from office by a vote of no confidence.
