If you haven't already succumbed to the Korean drama craze (cough, Squid Game), what have you been up to? Second, the year 2022 is as good a time as any to begin. Nothing beats a K-Drama for increasing my emotions and fangirling inclinations. I'm not sure what kind of power these dramas have. A Korean-language drama is sure to give a good laugh, a good cry, a good scare, or a healthy dose of butterflies in your stomach (thanks to all the drop-dead-gorgeous stars). Yes, the time and effort required to read subtitles is totally worth it.
While there are many fantastic K-Dramas from the past that deserve your attention, there have been some very excellent new additions to the canon in recent years. From funny romantic comedies to series that study psychiatric trauma, you'll find something to your preference. Here are a selection of the most popular Korean dramas currently airing.
Summer is our favorite season.
This cute love story is based on a webtoon. Choi Woo-shik, a well-known actor, also appears in the film. The plot revolves around two high school rivals who work together on a documentary comparing their lives as the top and bottom students in their senior year. The show becomes successful, and it goes viral again years later. At this point, they are leading completely different lives and haven't seen each other in a long time. When they're asked to do another documentary to catch up on what's happened since they graduated from high school, fate brings them back together.

This drama, set in 1998, follows two young people who are impacted by the financial crisis in South Korea. Fencer Na Hui-do (Kim Tae-ri) loses money for her school's team after his father's business goes bankrupt, while rich lad Baek Ijin (Nam Joo-hyuk) loses his lavish lifestyle. Regardless, the two find a way to pursue their dreams while simultaneously discovering each other.
Thirty-Nine
Three best friends, all in their forties, deal with life's ups and downs. They are there for each other through highs and lows, but a new issue threatens to shatter the group for good.
We're all no longer alive.
A high school campus serves as the epicenter of a zombie apocalypse. Students are now trapped within the building and must struggle to escape.
Weather Forecasting and Love
Working and dating are incompatible. This was something Jin Ha-kyung (Park Min-young) had to learn the hard way. After a heartbreaking breakup with a coworker at the Korea Meteorological Administration, she swears she'll never have another professional relationship...until team newcomer Lee Si-woo shows there.

Shin Ha-ri (Kim Se-jeong) is a dedicated employee who can't say no to a friend in need. After being asked, she tries to scare her friend's blind date away, but things get difficult when he turns out to be the CEO of her company.

Sim Eun-seok (Kim Hye-soo) is a well-known judge with a reputation for being stern. She feels little compassion for them because she was a victim of juvenile crime as a child. When she is appointed to a juvenile court, she tries to put her bias aside and strike a more equal balance in order to deal with challenging cases as child violence becomes more prevalent.
The King's Affection
During the Joseon Dynasty, the Crown Princess Consort gives birth to twins, a girl and a boy. She sends the girl away to preserve her life. However, when her son dies, her daughter is compelled to take his place, disguise herself as her brother, and ascend to the kingdom. And, as if things weren't bad enough, she bumps into her first love, making it even more difficult to keep her true identity hidden.
Snowdrop
In this series, Jisoo of BLACKPINK portrays Yeong-ro, a university student in Seoul in 1987. She finds an attractive but bloodied Soo-ho (Jung Hae-in) in her hostel and reacts to his wounds. The two fall in love, but it becomes increasingly harder for them to be together as soon-to-be revealed secrets emerge.

K-pop sensation Hoo Joon (Choi Tae-joon) meets magazine reporter Lee Geun-young during the premiere of a new nightclub (Choi Soo-young). She loses her job and decides to organize a one-person protest in front of Hoo Joon's talent agency, earning him the moniker "anti-fan."
