There are a lot of different reason why an individual may want to adopt a particular type of dog. Some people go strictly based on appearance or on the size, but others choose because they like certain behavioral habits or tendencies of the animals. In almost every breed there are several subsets that could attract a new pet owner such as the Standard, Toy, Tuxedo and Parti Poodles.
Partis are just like all the others in the breed except that they have unique fur characteristics. They have a dual color coat with flesh tone changes that correlate with the patches. They are covered more than half in white and the points where the two hues meet is always a crisp line with no blending between the hairs.
This particular breed of dog has a lot of versatility in their possible coloring options. Both the solid, and multi-toned animals can feature the hues of white, red, apricot, cafe'-au-lait, cream, brown, gray, silver, blue or black. One interesting thing of note is that the color one is as a puppy often changes as they go along the path to adulthood when they take on a completely new shade.
Two very different types of fur are present on dogs belonging in this breed. There is the corded style which hangs like smooth ringlets of medium length, covering the whole body. The other is the one for which the breed is known, short, tight curls that poof like clouds and resemble a woolly lamb.
Only three size categories for this kind of canine is recognized by the AKC, although some breeders try to capitalize on puppies that are born super small or larger than usual by calling them Teacup or Royal. Any dogs who are below ten inches at the shoulder are under the grouping of Toy and the next category, Miniature, takes all those who reach fifteen inches. Standards, which are the largest, are anything taller than 15" and they can often weight in excess of seventy pounds.
All fur types and sizes in this particular breed share the same general body style. Their posture is perfect with a fine, level back line and firmly held neck supporting a rounded skull. The head has flat, close laying ears, a muzzle that is long and straight and far set oval shaped eyes that are so dark they appear endlessly deep, wise and knowing.
Body wise, they are quite square shaped with the length being nearly identical to the height at their shoulders. Front and back legs are proportionate to the animal's size and end in small, dainty oval feet with arched toes. Their tails are set high on the rear and typically stand up straight, mimicking the rigidness of their necks and making them look very balanced.
This breed is often regaled for their intelligence, being considerably smarter than most others. They have a natural eagerness to please their humans and to constantly learn new things. As long as they receive consistent rewards of praise and affection, they will take instructions very well because they like the attention and actually crave social interaction.
