Is Ireland in for a Winter Wonderland Christmas?
Is Ireland in for a Winter Wonderland Christmas? The odds are stacked against it, but you never know! December is the wettest month in Ireland, and temperatures are usually quite mild, with highs of 7-9 degrees Celsius (45-48 degrees Fahrenheit) and lows of 2-3 degrees Celsius (36-37 degrees Fahrenheit). But every once in a while, the stars align and we get a white Christmas.
In 2010, Ireland was blanketed in snow for Christmas Day. The snow started falling on December 24th and continued through Christmas Day. Some areas received up to 30 centimeters (12 inches) of snow. It was a beautiful sight, and it made for a very special Christmas.
But white Christmases are rare in Ireland. In fact, the last time we had a widespread white Christmas was in 2010. So if you're hoping for a white Christmas in Ireland, don't get your hopes up too high. But who knows? Maybe this year will be different.
Here are some tips for staying warm and safe if you're spending Christmas in Ireland:
- Dress in warm, layered clothing.
- Wear a hat, gloves, and scarf.
- If you're going to be outside for any length of time, bring a warm drink with you.
- Be careful of icy roads and sidewalks.
- If you see someone who needs help, don't hesitate to offer it.
We hope you have a happy and safe Christmas, no matter what the weather brings!
