Is The Friar Universe Being Subtly Trolled? Is That Even Allowed?

I'm a huge Padres fan, and I've been following the team closely for years. One thing I've noticed is that the Padres seem to be the subject of a lot of subtle trolling from the baseball universe. Even from their own players. I'm not sure if it's intentional or not, but it's definitely there.

One example of this is the team's name. The Padres are named after the Franciscan friars who founded the city of San Diego. Friars are known for their humility and simplicity, but the Padres have been anything but humble in recent years. They've spent a lot of money on free agents, and they've made some big trades. They've also had some success on the field, but they've never been able to quite get over the hump and win a World Series.

Another example of Padres trolling is the team's mascot. The Padres' mascot is a brown bear named Swinging Friar. Swinging Friar is a loveable character, but he's also a bit of a goofball. He's always getting into trouble, and he's always making silly mistakes. It's almost as if the Padres are trying to tell us that they're not taking themselves too seriously.

The Padres don't just troll themselves, though. They also troll other teams. For example, in 2019, the Padres played the Dodgers in a series at Dodger Stadium. The Dodgers were favored to win the series, but the Padres ended up winning two out of three games. After the series, Padres manager Andy Green said, "We're not the Dodgers, but we're not the Angels either." This was a clear shot at the Dodgers, who are one of the most successful teams in baseball. Green was basically saying that the Padres are better than the Angels but not as good as the Dodgers. It was a funny and clever way to troll the Dodgers.

The Padres are a fun team to watch, and they're always good for a laugh. I'm not sure if the Padres are intentionally trolling the baseball universe, but it doesn't really matter. It's all in good fun, and it makes baseball more enjoyable.
