Axar Patel's all-round brilliance put Delhi Capitals in command against Sunrisers Hyderabad in their Indian Premier League match here on Thursday.

Patel smashed an unbeaten 35 off 21 and then grabbed 3-25 to guide Delhi to a comfortable 21-run win. DC posted a competitive 207-3 in their allotted 20 overs, riding on Mitchell Marsh's 63 off 48 balls and a 43-ball 56 by Prithvi Shaw.

SRH, who lost their third match on the trot, could only manage 186-8 in reply. Bhuvneshwar Kumar (32), Nicholas Pooran (30) and Aiden Markram (21) got the starts but they kept losing wickets at regular intervals, which made task difficult for them.

In the end, it was Axar, who doused any hopes of an SRH win by removing Markram, Umran Malik and Bhuvneshwar in his three overs. Earlier, put into bat, Delhi lost their captain Rishabh Pant (10) cheaply but Shaw and Marsh put on 109 runs for the second wicket to set the platform for a big total. Bhuvneshwar provided the breakthrough by dismissing Shaw in the 12th over.

Marsh was looking dangerous and brought up his fifty off 39 balls, but he holed out to Abhishek Sharma at long-on off Shreyas Gopal's bowling in the 15th over. Axar then took centre stage, smashing four boundaries and a six in his 21-ball knock as Delhi posted a challenging total.

SRH started their chase on a positive note with Abhishek (20) and Kane Williamson (19) adding 42 runs for the opening wicket. But Williamson's dismissal in the fifth over triggered a collapse as they lost four wickets for 31 runs. Abhishek, Rahul Tripathi (9) and Pooran were all dismissed in quick succession.

Markram tried to anchor the innings but he too was dismissed by Axar in the 18th over. Bhuvneshwar tried to keep SRH in the hunt with some big hits but he was also dismissed by Axar in the penultimate over.
