Jacoby Brissett: The Journeyman Quarterback

From humble beginnings to NFL success, Jacoby Brissett has carved out a unique niche for himself.
Jacoby JaJuan Brissett was born on December 11, 1992, in West Palm Beach, Florida. His journey to the NFL began at Santaluces Community High School, where he was a three-star recruit. He initially committed to the University of Miami but later changed his mind and joined the University of Florida Gators.
After redshirting his freshman year, Brissett played sparingly in his first two seasons at Florida. In 2013, he started 12 games, leading the Gators to a 7-5 record, including a win in the Sugar Bowl. However, with the arrival of Will Grier at Florida in 2014, Brissett decided to transfer to North Carolina State University.
At NC State, Brissett became a star. He led the Wolfpack to a 9-4 record in 2015 and a 10-3 record in 2016, earning All-ACC honors both years. His impressive performances caught the attention of NFL scouts, and he was selected by the New England Patriots in the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft.
Over the next four seasons, Brissett played a backup role behind Tom Brady and Jimmy Garoppolo in New England. He did get some playing time in relief of Brady during the Patriots' Super Bowl run in 2016, and he even started the AFC Divisional Round game against the Tennessee Titans in 2017.
In 2019, Brissett signed a two-year contract with the Indianapolis Colts. In his first season as a starter, he led the Colts to a 7-9 record and showed flashes of his potential. In 2020, he started 11 games before suffering a hamstring injury that ended his season.
In 2021, Brissett was traded to the Miami Dolphins, and in 2022, he joined the Cleveland Browns. With both teams, he played a backup role and saw limited opportunities to showcase his abilities.
In 2023, Brissett signed a one-year contract with the New England Patriots. With Mac Jones recovering from an ankle injury, Brissett is expected to start the first few games of the season. This will be a big opportunity for him to prove that he can be a reliable starting quarterback in the NFL.
Brissett's journey to the NFL is a testament to his hard work and dedication. He has always taken advantage of his opportunities, and he is now in a position to succeed. He may not be the most glamorous quarterback in the league, but he is a tough, resilient player who gives his all on every snap.
As he prepares for the 2023 season, Brissett knows that he has a lot to prove. But he is confident that he can succeed and help the Patriots win games.
"I'm just trying to be the best player that I can be," Brissett said. "I'm going to go out there and work hard and try to help this team win some games."
