Jane's Addiction: Just Say No

By Bob Makin

It was 1987, and I was working as an entertainment reporter for the Las Vegas Sun. One day, I got a call from a publicist who said there was a new band in town that I should check out.

The band was called Jane's Addiction, and they were playing at the now-defunct Limelight Club on the Strip. I'd never heard of them, but I was always on the lookout for new music, so I decided to go check them out.

When I got to the club, the place was packed. I could barely see the stage, but I could hear the music, and it was unlike anything I'd ever heard before.

The band was fronted by a charismatic singer named Perry Farrell, who had a shaved head and wore a long black coat. He was backed by a guitarist named Dave Navarro, a bassist named Eric Avery, and a drummer named Stephen Perkins.

The music was a mix of hard rock, funk, and psychedelia. It was dark, edgy, and danceable. I was mesmerized.

After the show, I went backstage to meet the band. I was surprised to find out that they were all very friendly and down-to-earth.

"We're just trying to make music that's different," Farrell said. "We don't want to sound like anyone else."

I could tell that they were serious about their music, and I knew that they were going to be big.

I kept in touch with the band over the years, and I was thrilled when they finally released their debut album, Nothing's Shocking, in 1988. The album was a critical and commercial success, and it helped Jane's Addiction become one of the most popular bands in the world.

I've seen Jane's Addiction perform live many times over the years, and they've always been one of my favorite bands. They're a truly unique and special band, and I'm grateful that I've had the opportunity to see them grow and evolve over the years.

In recent years, the band has been through some tough times, including the death of Avery in 1998. But they've persevered, and they continue to make great music.

I'm excited to see what the future holds for Jane's Addiction. I know that they have a lot more to give.

Just say no to drugs!

Jane's Addiction has always been known for their drug use. In fact, their name is a reference to heroin. But the band has since cleaned up their act, and they're now all about promoting a healthy lifestyle.

"We used to party hard," Farrell said. "But we realized that it was getting in the way of our music. Now, we're all about staying healthy and clean."

The band's message is simple: just say no to drugs.

"Drugs can destroy your life," Farrell said. "They can take away your health, your family, and your friends. Just say no."

I'm proud of Jane's Addiction for speaking out about the dangers of drugs. They're a role model for young people, and they're helping to make the world a better place.
