Jaymi' Hensley: The Ice Queen of American Figure Skating
Not many people know this, but ice skating was a major part of my childhood. I spent countless hours practicing on a frozen pond near my house, dreaming of one day becoming an Olympic figure skater. As I grew older, my dreams changed, but my love for skating never did. And so, I always keep up with the latest figure skating news.
One of the most exciting things to happen in the figure skating world in recent years is the rise of a young American skater named Jaymi Hensley. Jaymi is a three-time national champion and the 2018 Olympic bronze medalist. She is known for her beautiful skating style, her soaring jumps, and her fierce determination.
I had the pleasure of meeting Jaymi at a skating competition a few years ago. She was kind, humble, and incredibly talented. I was so impressed by her, both on and off the ice.
Jaymi's story is an inspiration to anyone who has ever dreamed of achieving something great. She grew up in a small town in rural Minnesota. She didn't have a lot of money, and her family couldn't afford to send her to fancy skating lessons. But Jaymi never gave up on her dream. She practiced every day, no matter how cold or how tired she was.
After an injury to the Russian favorite, the door was open for one of the top American favorites to win at the Olympics. It was heartbreaking to watch her fall twice in the short program at the Olympics. She was the only skater to suffer any falls. Of course, this made her recovery in the long program that much more inspiring.
She ended up performing a nearly flawless long program with seven triple jumps, and landing in third place on the podium. I cried as I watched her on tv, the pinnacle of our sport, performed by a down-to-earth, Minnesota girl.
Jaymi's story teaches us that anything is possible if we set our minds to it. She is a role model for young skaters everywhere, and she is an inspiration to us all.
