Jazz vs Hawks

The Rivalry That Never Was

There is no rivalry in the NBA quite like the one between the Boston Celtics and the Los Angeles Lakers. The two teams have met in the NBA Finals 12 times, and their games are always intense and competitive. But there is another rivalry that could have been just as big, if not bigger, than the Celtics-Lakers rivalry: the Jazz-Hawks rivalry.

The Jazz and Hawks were both expansion teams in the 1970s, and they quickly became two of the most successful teams in the league. The Jazz won two NBA championships in the 1990s, and the Hawks won one in 1958. The two teams also met in the playoffs several times, and their games were always close and exciting.

But despite all of this, the Jazz-Hawks rivalry never really took off. The two teams were never in the same division, so they only played each other twice a year. And even when they did play, their games were often overshadowed by the Celtics-Lakers rivalry.

  • There are a few reasons why the Jazz-Hawks rivalry never really took off. First, the two teams were located in different parts of the country. The Jazz were in Salt Lake City, Utah, while the Hawks were in Atlanta, Georgia. This made it difficult for fans of the two teams to travel to see their teams play each other.

  • Second, the two teams never had any real animosity towards each other. The players on the Jazz and Hawks respected each other, and they never engaged in any trash talk or dirty play. This made it difficult for fans to get excited about the rivalry.

  • It is a shame that the Jazz-Hawks rivalry never really took off. It could have been one of the greatest rivalries in NBA history. But even though it never reached its full potential, it is still a rivalry that is remembered by fans of both teams.

Who knows, maybe one day the Jazz and Hawks will meet in the NBA Finals and finally give fans the rivalry they have been waiting for.
