Imagine, if you will, a young boy named Jernei Pelman. He was a bright and curious child, but he had one big fear: the dark.
Every night, Jernei's parents would tuck him into bed and turn off the light. But as soon as they left the room, Jernei would be filled with terror. He would imagine all sorts of scary things lurking in the shadows, just waiting to get him.
One night, Jernei's fear got so bad that he couldn't even close his eyes. He lay there in bed, wide-eyed and terrified, until finally, he couldn't take it anymore. He got out of bed and crept down the hall to his parents' bedroom.
"Mommy, Daddy," he whispered, "I'm scared."
His parents woke up and hugged Jernei tightly. "It's okay, honey," they said. "We're here with you."
Jernei's parents took him back to his room and sat with him until he fell asleep. But even then, Jernei couldn't shake his fear. The next night, it was even worse. He was so scared that he started to cry.
Jernei's parents knew that they had to do something to help their son. They talked to him about his fear and tried to reassure him that there was nothing to be afraid of. But nothing seemed to work.
One day, Jernei's father had an idea. He took Jernei to the library and checked out a book about facing your fears. Jernei read the book and learned about how other people had overcome their fears. He also learned about how to relax and calm himself down.
That night, Jernei decided to try to face his fear. He got into bed and turned off the light. At first, he was scared, but then he remembered what he had learned in the book. He took a deep breath and relaxed his body. He told himself that there was nothing to be afraid of, that he was safe.
And guess what? Jernei fell asleep! He didn't wake up once all night long. The next morning, he woke up feeling brave and proud. He had finally overcome his fear of the dark!
