Jim Knowles

Jim Knowles is an American football coach who is the current defensive coordinator for the Ohio State Buckeyes. He has also served as the defensive coordinator for the Oklahoma State Cowboys, the Duke Blue Devils, and the Cornell Big Red. Knowles is known for his aggressive, attacking style of defense, which has helped his teams achieve great success on the field.

Knowles was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1965. He played college football at Cornell University, where he was a three-time All-Ivy League selection. After graduating from Cornell, Knowles began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Duke University. He then spent two seasons as the defensive coordinator at Cornell before moving on to Oklahoma State in 2000.

Knowles spent nine seasons at Oklahoma State, helping the Cowboys to three Big 12 championships. He then left Oklahoma State to become the defensive coordinator at Duke in 2009. In 2020, Ohio State finished the season ranked second in the nation in scoring defense, allowing only 17.7 points per game. Knowles and Ohio State finished the 2022 season ranked 4th in the nation in total defense while leading the Big Ten with 14 interceptions.
