Kahawa West building collapse: Seven people feared dead

A seven-storey building collapsed in Kahawa West, Nairobi on Sunday morning, leaving seven people feared dead.
The building, which was under construction, collapsed at around 6am, trapping several workers inside.
Rescue workers are currently on the scene, and are using sniffer dogs to search for survivors.
The cause of the collapse is not yet known, but it is believed that the building may have been structurally unsound.
The collapse has caused widespread shock and sadness in the community, and many people have taken to social media to express their condolences.
One resident, who lives near the building, said: "I heard a loud bang and then I saw the building collapse. It was like something out of a movie."
Another resident said: "This is a tragedy. My thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims."
The Kahawa West building collapse is the latest in a series of building collapses in Kenya in recent years.
In 2016, a six-storey building collapsed in Huruma, Nairobi, killing at least 51 people.
In 2017, a seven-storey building collapsed in Kiambu, Nairobi, killing at least 49 people.
The Kahawa West building collapse is a reminder of the importance of building safety and regulations.
It is essential that buildings are constructed to the highest standards and that regular inspections are carried out to ensure that they are safe.
The government must also take action to ensure that developers are not cutting corners and that they are using quality materials.
Only by working together can we prevent tragedies like this from happening again.
