Kenya vs England U17

Kenya's history-making U-17 women's football team produced an impressive display despite losing 2-0 to England in their World Cup opener.

The match, played in India on Monday, was a proud moment for Kenya as it marked the first time the nation had competed in a FIFA Women's World Cup at any level.

England showed their class with two goals in either half, but the Starlets never gave up and pushed their opponents all the way. In the 18th minute, England's Ella Toone opened the scoring in style, dribbling past two Kenyan defenders before firing into the bottom corner.

The Kenyans had chances to draw level, with Alicia Atieno's free-kick forcing England goalkeeper Emily Ramsey into a smart save.

In the second half, England sealed the victory through substitute Abbie Bardgett, who tapped in from close range.

Kenya's coach, Alex Alumira, was proud of his team's performance despite the defeat.

"I am very proud of the girls," he said. "They played with a lot of heart and determination. England are a very strong team, but we competed with them all the way."

Kenya's next match is against Brazil on Wednesday.
