Dear Reader,
Wow! Three letters that can connote so many things - surprise ; horror ; enchantment - and i believe that all the words that i used to describe that one word "wow" is exactly how I feel after the workshop.. Let's break it down, shall we?
Surprise
Truth be told, I was quite apprehensive about the whole day because I am not a big computer guy - a big guy, yes, but a big computer guy, well, no.. And yet when Anne began talking and showing I was quite surprised by how simple some of the things were and how accessible they ARE.. I was also rather surprised at how engrossed I was for the day - computers don't blow my hair back but by engaging with the material, I am now blown away.. I think you always hear the saying that the internet is full of anything you could want or imagine but because I have been so insular in so amny ways, I had no idea what was out there.. Now my eyes are opened!
Horror
I was truly horrified by how little I know about the internet ; how blinkered I have been and how uninformed i have been.. I can't get over what I have learnt and how simple things can be and how simple they are..
Enchanted
I think I have a new found respect for the internet.. In the interactions that i have had, it has been so limited to:
> seeing it in a negative light because of explicit adult content easily accessible by children and finding ways to curb access to this
> things that durectly interest me such as religion or sport etc
And yet there is SOOOOOOOOOO much outh there that can contribute to MY life as I see it and opens and broadens my view that I am in some ways enchanted by this internet thing!
So that's what I got out of it and now I plan to use it to my betterment.. i have also realised how heavily i rely on microsoft spellcheck to correct my non-capitalised 'i's in my email :)
Thanks Anne Whaits!!!
