Dank Memes to Fill Your Dreams

MEMES!! MEMES!! MEMES!! Memes are everywhere if you just know where to look. Sometimes you find them and sometimes the memes find you, but of all the times you’ve looked at one have you ever wondered where they come from or how they are made? How do you even begin to make a meme in the first place though? If you weren’t able to answer at least one of these questions then keep on reading for a memealicous read. Before we get into the “complex” stuff, because none of this is really complex if you know your way around a smartphone, there are some key points that we’ll go over to get you started on your meme voyage. Some key points that I’ll be covering are going over what a meme is, then how you can make some memes easily with imagination being your limitation, and lastly, how writing is used to make them and bring people together.

Writing back before the 21st century was barely getting popular, people were able to send emails across the world and chat with one another even with long distances between them. As the internet evolved so did the way we communicate. Sometimes it would be hard to tell someone a joke by email or text, so the meme invention was born. So, what is a meme you ask? Well a meme “can be a photo, a video, a person, an animal, a fictional character, an event, a belief, an action, a GIF, a symbol, a word or anything else(Moreau).” Although there are many examples of memes, the most common ones are the photo memes so we will be focusing more on those. Some picture memes may contain more than one picture but for starters, we’ll be focusing on single picture memes. A meme usually has sarcasm in it or over exaggeration of something to make people laugh as you can see in the example below. But how can you tell when a picture stops being a picture and become a meme? One obvious situation is when you actually see the words on the picture making fun of it or whatever is going on in that picture rather than just posting that same picture without the caption in it. As you can see in the example below, there is a picture of Morpheus from the matrix on the left and on the right is the same picture but it is now considered a meme because of the caption and how they are making fun of the people who always post on social media that they are in the gym. How hard is it to make some memes? Not as difficult as you may think.

In succession, making memes back in the days when we didn’t have smartphones might have been a hassle or a lengthy process that would take you up to 20 min to make or more. Now in 2017, with just about everyone having a smartphone, making memes can take you 5 minutes’ maximum. For most picture memes, there is of course a picture of the related subject you are talking about and a caption or description of that picture exaggerating your point in a sarcastic manner or similar. To make such hilarious memes there are many apps for your phone that you can use to make memes such as pixlr which lets you change the word font, word color, and lets you place the phrase anywhere you’d like. There is an app called Eraser that you may use if you really want to get creative. With this you are able to crop out anything you like, a tree in the background of your picture for example and once you cropped it out you simply save it to your gallery. After that you can use the Pixlr app I mentioned before because it lets you overlap your multiple picture like the one you cropped using Eraser and create a masterpiece meme of your own. You may use any app that suits your needs but for starters or rookies we want to make it simple so you can get the hang of it before you start getting really creative so were going to use one that is simple and easy called Meme Builder which is on the play store but you can use any meme making app of your choice. With this app, you take a photo or choose a photo from your gallery to begin making your meme. After doing so, you will have the option to insert your phrase of the related topic you want your meme to be about. Since most memes have their phrases beginning at the top and ending at the bottom, this app does just that and lets you choose what you want to write on top and on the bottom. After you have done thusly, you can now save your meme and share it with all your friends and for the world to see. Now with all this in mind, how to decide about what your meme should be about.

Lastly, since memes have become huge in the recent years, trying to figure out what to make your memes about can be a challenge but it’s much simpler than you may think. One thing you can do to almost guarantee that your memes go viral or is to know what’s going on in the world, your state, or your country so that your memes can make an impact on social media and explode with popularity. For example, if your state passes down some crazy bill to lower the alcohol limit to some ridiculous number, you can make a meme about how dumb your legislators are for not focusing on more important subjects like fixing the roads instead of worrying about the legal limit of alcohol.(example below) Knowing what’s trending and/or what is going on around the world that can impact you can make all the difference on whether your meme gets popular and shared for lots of people to enjoy. With a meme being shared for all to enjoy, what most people don’t realize is that memes can bring people together. You don’t believe me? Well, just think about the time someone showed you a meme or you showed someone else a meme, suddenly you both are looking at memes having a friendly conversation and realizing that you had more in common with each other than you had expected. This is especially true when people make memes about something that has been on the news. You might look at the meme and not know what it’s about so you go and search it up on the internet. Now that you know what that meme is about you can either related to it or not and you may share it on the internet for more people to see. You may have failed to realize that in the moment that you were searching for what that meme was about, it was bringing you together with other people that have seen the purpose of that meme thus proving my point that memes do in fact bring people together.

In conclusion, now that you know that memes come from ordinary people like you and me, you may be interested in finding more memes for you to enjoy. You now have knowledge on how to make great memes and how you can use recent events to your advantage to help your memes explode with popularity. By simply showing someone a meme or sharing it with your friends you can easily start a conversation and bring you closer together with them. For all the things in the world that bring people closer together who would have thought that memes would one day be bringing people closer together. Just remember that with great meme making the only thing that can stop you is your imagination.
