Kymari Goienetxea: A Journey to India that Transformed My Life

As I stepped off the plane in Delhi, a wave of exhilaration washed over me. I, Kymari Goienetxea, had finally embarked on a journey that I had dreamed about for years. A journey to the land of vibrant colors, ancient traditions, and profound spirituality.
My first stop was the bustling city of Mumbai. As I walked through the crowded streets, I was struck by the raw energy and diversity that surrounded me. I marveled at the towering skyscrapers that shared space with ancient temples and street vendors selling everything under the sun.
Over the next few weeks, I immersed myself in the rich culture of India. I visited the iconic Taj Mahal, a testament to love and architectural ingenuity. I explored the holy city of Varanasi, where I took a boat ride along the sacred Ganges River. I lost myself in the vibrant markets of Jaipur, where I haggled with vendors for colorful textiles and handmade jewelry.
But it was during my stay in a small village in Rajasthan that I had the most profound experience. I lived with a local family, learning about their way of life and sharing their stories. It was there that I truly began to understand the depth and beauty of Indian culture.
As I bid farewell to India, I felt like a changed person. My perspective on life had shifted. I had learned to embrace diversity, to appreciate the simple things, and to connect with people from all walks of life.

Here are some of the most memorable moments from my incredible journey:

  • Visiting the Golden Temple in Amritsar. The sacred Sikh temple is a sight to behold, with its golden dome and marble architecture. I was particularly moved by the langar, a communal meal where everyone is welcome to eat for free.
  • Hiking to the Tiger's Nest Monastery in Bhutan. The trek through the lush forests was challenging, but the view from the top was well worth the effort. The monastery, perched on a sheer cliff face, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
  • Learning to cook Indian food in a small village in Kerala. I spent a day with a local family, learning the secrets of traditional Kerala cuisine. The food was delicious, and I came home with a newfound appreciation for Indian spices.
  • Attending a traditional Hindu wedding in Goa. The wedding was a vibrant and colorful affair, with music, dancing, and traditional rituals. I was honored to be a part of such a special occasion.
  • Participating in a yoga retreat in Rishikesh. Rishikesh is known as the yoga capital of the world, and I couldn't think of a better place to deepen my yoga practice. The retreat was a transformative experience, where I learned the importance of mindfulness and self-care.
As I reflect on my journey, I am grateful for the opportunity to have experienced the world through the lens of Kymari Goienetxea. I have returned home with a heart full of memories and an unquenchable thirst for further exploration.
If you are considering a trip to India, I highly recommend that you embrace the adventure and allow yourself to be fully immersed in the culture. Be prepared to be amazed, inspired, and perhaps even transformed.
Namaste.
