Leadership Habits You Must Posses

You have done every advice that you have read in the internet about leadership. You have founded a good team of subordinates who respect you and look up to you. Your boss has also given enough responsibility to you to feel your worth. Well, good for you.

However, despite all the praises, it still feels different and uncomfortable. Your followers may have shown some respect when you are in front of them but the talk around says otherwise. Is it because you are lacking something? Is there a basis of their complaints? Is there any advice that you have overlooked? Perhaps, you have done more than enough that it feels suffocating?

The truth is that not every leadership tactic works for every leader. Since there are different human behaviors, one approach may not be suitable for the environment and team you are working with. The strict and authoritative leadership may work for professional businesses with strict policies and regulations but cannot be adapted in a creative and carefree office environment. In other times, loose leadership may be effective to those followers who prefer lax and pressure-less supervision but can only crumble a team who is dependent on one decision and stern management.

Yet, all leaders have similarities. They may differ in their approach but the habits followed by the most successful leaders are reviewed to be the same. These habits are being done by company leaders of all sizes because they tap into human’s basic needs. As The Peterson Group Consulting and Coaching Company explain it, these habits go beyond any innate leadership style.

1.            Always Asking for Consensus

Consensus is one of the vital factors showing good teamwork within your team. According to one of the top entrepreneurs in Jakarta, Indonesia, consensus lets his team see that they are a part of every decision. He added, “You get surprised on the ideas they can contribute in the team. Through consensus, we hear their opinion on things as well and it is a good practice.”

2.            Always Give Praise when it is due

This is a habit that seems to come out of a natural gifting for leadership where you just care about people as human beings and understand we all have a desire for praise and recognition. It crosses all age groups. Criticism is a way to direct on a specific project, but praise is a way to lead and run a company. The best companies have a leader who is known to hand out easy praise.

3.            Rise from the Challenge

This is probably the most important one in the list.  As a leader, you should have optimistic view on things that challenges your capabilities and resources. Despite the adversity, you should lead your team towards possibilities.
