Lisa Bluder started her Hawkeye career as the women's basketball coach in 2000. She immediately made an impact, leading the team to their first NCAA Tournament appearance in 11 years. After a 14-13 record and no postseason in 2001, the Hawkeyes have reached the NCAA Tournament in every season since.
Bluder was an assistant coach at the University of Northern Iowa and Drake University before joining the Hawkeyes.
It was at Northern Iowa where Bluder learned from one of the best, C. Vivian Stringer. Stringer is now in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
Bluder has said that Stringer was tough but fair and that she learned a lot about discipline and accountability from her.
