Mack Brown is a legendary college football coach who has led the North Carolina Tar Heels and the Texas Longhorns to numerous victories and championships.
Brown began his coaching career as an assistant at Appalachian State University in 1974. He then spent time as an assistant at Mississippi State University and the University of Iowa before becoming the head coach at Tulane University in 1985.
Brown's success at Tulane earned him the attention of the University of North Carolina, which hired him as head coach in 1988. Brown led the Tar Heels to their first Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) title in 1988 and their first national championship in 1997.
After the 1997 season, Brown left North Carolina to become the head coach at the University of Texas. Brown led the Longhorns to the national championship in 2005 and to the Rose Bowl in 2006 and 2009.
Brown retired from coaching after the 2013 season, but he returned to North Carolina as head coach in 2019. He led the Tar Heels to the ACC Championship Game in 2019 and to the Orange Bowl in 2020.
Brown is a member of the College Football Hall of Fame and the Texas Sports Hall of Fame. He is considered one of the greatest college football coaches of all time.
