I know what you're all thinking: a new shopping center is nothing to write home about.

Well, sit tight, because Manawa Bay is an outlet shopping center. But it gets better. They are right by the airport.

And to be honest, I avoided it for quite a while. I do not need to spend more money, and I especially do not need to spend more money that close to my home. But it began to seem like I was one of the few people in Auckland who hadn't made the pilgrimage to the new outlet mall.

So there I was, on a road trip to New Plymouth, being dragged into the depths of Manawa Bay, armed with nothing but a lack of self-control and an empty wallet.

As soon as we pulled in, I started to understand the hype. The center was huge. I mean, it's not as big as a Westfield or anything, but it's certainly not small. And it was packed.

My friends and I spent hours wandering around. I mean, it's not like there was a plan. We just wandered around, popping into shops every now and then. We tried on some clothes, and we even bought a few things. The prices were so good, it would have been rude not to.

After a while, we stopped for lunch at one of the many restaurants in the center. The food was great, and the prices were surprisingly reasonable.

We spent the rest of the day shopping. It was a long day, but it was also a lot of fun. I found some great deals on clothes, shoes, and accessories. I even bought a new purse, which I love.
