Marcia Hines: Australian Music Icon and National Treasure

It's impossible to talk about the history of Australian music without mentioning Marcia Hines. With her powerful voice and magnetic stage presence, she's captivated audiences for decades.
Marcia's journey began in the early 70s, when she joined the cast of the stage show "Hair." Her breakout role in "Jesus Christ Superstar" cemented her status as a rising star. But it was her 1975 debut album, "Marcia Hines," that truly launched her into the stratosphere.
This album featured the iconic single "Something's Gotten Hold of My Heart," which became an instant classic. It's one of those songs that you can't help but sing along to, even if you're not sure what the words mean.
Over the years, Marcia has continued to release hit after hit, including "I Just Don't Know What to Do with Myself" and "Touch Me." She's graced stages all over the world, from Sydney to London to New York. And she's received countless awards, including an Order of Australia for her contributions to the arts.
But Marcia Hines isn't just a talented musician. She's also a generous human being. She's worked tirelessly for various charities and causes, including the Starlight Foundation and the Fred Hollows Foundation.
I had the privilege of meeting Marcia Hines once, and I was immediately struck by her warmth and kindness. She is truly a national treasure, and I am so grateful for her contributions to Australian music.

Here are a few of my favorite Marcia Hines moments:

  • Her performance of "I Am Woman" at the 2000 Sydney Olympics
  • Her duet with Anthony Warlow on "Over the Rainbow"
  • Her appearance on "Dancing with the Stars" in 2009
Marcia Hines is more than just a singer; she's an inspiration. She is a reminder that anything is possible if you have talent, determination, and a heart of gold.

Thank you, Marcia, for all that you've given to Australian music and culture.
