Who is Mark Milley?
General Mark Milley is the 20th and current Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the United States Armed Forces. He assumed office on September 30, 2019, succeeding General Joseph F. Dunford Jr.
Early Life and Career
Milley was born in Winchester, Massachusetts, in 1958. He graduated from Princeton University in 1980 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in politics. After graduation, he was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the United States Army.
Milley served in various command and staff positions throughout his career. He commanded the 10th Mountain Division from 2012 to 2014 and the III Corps from 2014 to 2015. He also served as the Chief of Staff of the Army from 2015 to 2019.

As Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Milley is the principal military advisor to the President of the United States, the Secretary of Defense, and the National Security Council. He is also responsible for overseeing the development and execution of military operations.

Controversies
Milley has been involved in several controversies during his tenure as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. In 2020, he was criticized for his handling of the protests in Washington, D.C. following the death of George Floyd. He was also criticized for his decision to wear a camouflage uniform during a visit to the White House.
Personal Life
Milley is married to Hollyanne Milley. They have two children.
Milley is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, the Command and General Staff College, and the School of Advanced Military Studies. He has also earned a Master of Arts degree in international relations from Columbia University.
Milley is a recipient of numerous awards and decorations, including the Defense Distinguished Service Medal, the Army Distinguished Service Medal, and the Legion of Merit.
