Mark Withers was born on January 12, 1947 in Portsmouth, Ohio, USA.
He began his acting career in the early 1970s, appearing in small roles in films and television series. In 1981, he landed the role of Ted Dinard on the ABC soap opera Dynasty. He played the role for three seasons, until his character was killed off in 1984.
After leaving Dynasty, Withers continued to appear in a variety of film and television roles. In 2016, he was cast as the role of Gary in the Netflix science fiction horror series Stranger Things. He played the role for three seasons, until his character was killed off in 2019.
Withers died on November 22, 2024 at the age of 77 from pancreatic cancer.
His work on Stranger Things
Withers played the role of Gary, a maintenance worker at Hawkins National Laboratory. In the first season, Gary helps Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) escape from the lab. In the second season, Gary is killed by the Demodogs.
