The Marshall Thundering Herd football team is an intercollegiate varsity sports program of Marshall University. The team represents the university as a member of the Sun Belt Conference East Division of the National Collegiate Athletic Association and plays on NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision-level.
The Thundering Herd have a rich history, dating back to 1920. The team has won 13 conference titles and has made 14 bowl game appearances. In 1999, the Thundering Herd won the NCAA Division I-AA Football Championship.
The Thundering Herd are led by head coach Charles Huff. Huff was hired in 2021 and has led the team to a 10-9 record in his two seasons.
The Thundering Herd play their home games at Joan C. Edwards Stadium. The stadium has a capacity of 38,068.
