Matt Doherty is a professional footballer who plays for Premier League club Wolverhampton Wanderers and the Republic of Ireland national team. Doherty began his career with Bohemians before moving to Wolverhampton Wanderers in July 2010. Doherty returned to
Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2023 after spells with Bury, Hibernian and Tottenham Hotspur. Primarily a right-back, Doherty can also play as a wing-back.
Born in Dublin, Ireland, Doherty began his playing career with local club Belvedere before joining the youth system of Bohemians at the age of 15.
He made his debut for the club's first team in 2009 and quickly became a regular in the Bohemians defense. Doherty impressed with his strong physical presence and ability to get forward and support the attack.
In his time with Bohemians, he won the League of Ireland Premier Division title in 2009 and the FAI Cup in 2008 and 2010.
