Over the past few hundred years the levels of the ocean have slowly begun to rise worldwide.
Currently the ocean is only rising about 3mm per a year.
At this rate rising sea levels would not have a major effect on the east coast in the next 100 years.
One conern is that the rate of sea level rise will continue to increase
While the east coast may not be at risk of rising sea levels anytime soon as sea levels rise so does the damage that accompanies storm surges.
Overtime if sea levels continue to rise some low lying areas may need to relocate as a result of flooding.
Scientists believe that the two main causes of rising sea levels is thermal expansion(expansion of water because its warm) and the melting of glaciers
