Michael Newman: Continueing The Legacy

Michael Newman, the actor best known for his role as lifeguard "Newmie" on the hit 90s television series Baywatch, has passed away at the age of 68. Newman's death was confirmed by his close friend and director, John Murray.
Newman was born in Los Angeles, California, on August 21, 1956. He began his acting career in the early 1980s, appearing in small roles in films and television shows. In 1989, he landed the role of Newmie on Baywatch, a role that would make him a household name.
Newman played Newmie for 11 seasons, from 1989 to 2000. The character was a caricature of Newman himself, a former lifeguard who was known for his sense of humor and his love of practical jokes. Newman's performance was a fan favorite, and he quickly became one of the most popular characters on the show.
After leaving Baywatch, Newman continued to act, appearing in a number of films and television shows including Baywatch: Panic at Malibu Pier, Baywatch: White Thunder at Glacier Bay, Welcome to Hollywood, Baywatch: Forbidden Paradise, and New Mexico True Television. He also starred in the 2014 film I Spit on Your Tombstone.
In 2006, Newman was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. He continued to work after his diagnosis, but his health declined in recent years. Newman died on Sunday, November 20, 2023, at his home in Los Angeles.
Newman is survived by his wife, Sarah, and his two children, Emily and Chris.
