Mike Amesbury
Mike Amesbury is a British politician who has served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Runcorn and Helsby since 2017, and previously Weaver Vale from 2017 to 2019. He is a member of the Labour Party.
Amesbury was born in Wythenshawe, Manchester, in 1969. He studied politics and sociology at the University of Bradford and worked as a trade union official before entering politics.
Amesbury was elected to Halton Borough Council in 2003 and served as its leader from 2011 to 2017. He was elected to the House of Commons in 2017, defeating the Conservative incumbent, David Mowat.
In 2022, Amesbury was suspended from the Labour Party after a video emerged of him punching a man in the face. He was reinstated to the party in 2023.
Amesbury is a supporter of the trade union movement and has campaigned for workers' rights. He is also a supporter of the National Health Service and has campaigned for its funding to be increased.
