Moxie

I know the title is a little clickbaity, but hear me out. "Moxie" is a 2021 coming-of-age comedy-drama film directed by Amy Poehler from a screenplay by Poehler and Robin Schiff, based on the 2015 novel of the same name by Jennifer Mathieu. It stars Hadley Robinson, Lauren Tsai, Alycia Pascual-Pena, Nico Hiraga, and Clark Gregg. The film follows Vivian Carter, a shy 16-year-old girl who publishes an anonymous zine called "Moxie" to call out sexist and misogynistic behavior at her high school.

I was really excited to see this movie because I'm a big fan of Amy Poehler and I thought the premise sounded really interesting. And I'm so glad I did! "Moxie" is a really great movie that's both funny and heartwarming. It's also really timely, as it deals with issues of sexism, misogyny, and sexual harassment that are unfortunately still all too common in our society.

  • The acting is great. Hadley Robinson is really great as Vivian Carter. She's able to convey Vivian's shyness and insecurity, but also her strength and determination. The rest of the cast is also great, with Lauren Tsai, Alycia Pascual-Pena, and Nico Hiraga all giving standout performances.
  • The writing is sharp and funny. Poehler and Schiff have written a really great script that's both funny and heartwarming. The characters are all well-developed and relatable, and the dialogue is really sharp.
  • The movie is really timely. As I mentioned before, "Moxie" deals with issues of sexism, misogyny, and sexual harassment that are unfortunately still all too common in our society. The movie does a great job of showing how these issues can affect people's lives, and it offers a message of hope and empowerment for those who are fighting against them.

If you're looking for a great movie to watch, I highly recommend "Moxie". It's a funny, heartwarming, and timely film that will stay with you long after you've seen it.
