Nepal earthquake today

A powerful earthquake measuring 7.1 on the Richter scale struck Tibet near the Nepal border on Tuesday, sending shockwaves across the region. The quake, which occurred at around 2:05 am local time, was felt in several parts of Nepal, India, and Bhutan.

According to the latest reports, at least 53 people have been killed and 62 injured in the quake. The death toll is expected to rise as rescue crews continue to search for survivors.

The epicenter of the quake was located 93 kilometers northeast of Lobuche, Nepal, at a depth of 10 kilometers.

The earthquake caused widespread damage to buildings and infrastructure in the affected areas. In Nepal, several buildings in the capital city of Kathmandu collapsed, including a historic temple. In India, the quake caused damage to buildings in the northern state of Sikkim.

The earthquake has also triggered landslides in the mountainous regions of Nepal and Tibet. Rescue workers are having difficulty reaching some of the affected areas due to the landslides and blocked roads.

The earthquake is a reminder of the seismic activity that Nepal is prone to. In 2015, a powerful earthquake in Nepal killed more than 8,000 people and injured thousands more.

The government of Nepal has declared a state of emergency in the affected areas and has appealed for international assistance.
