Prepare yourself, then, because there's a new Hunger Games book on the way: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.

The prequel to the blockbuster Hunger Games Trilogy is due to be published in May 2020. It will tell the story of a young Coriolanus Snow, years before he becomes the tyrannical President of Panem.

Fans of the series will know that Snow is not exactly a likeable character. He's the man who created the Hunger Games, after all. But Suzanne Collins, the author of the Hunger Games trilogy, has promised that The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes will give us a new perspective on Snow.

"With this book, I wanted to explore the world of Panem as it was before the events of The Hunger Games. I wanted to see what life was like for Coriolanus Snow at that time, and how he became the man he did.

What do we know about the plot?

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is set 64 years before the events of The Hunger Games. At this point in time, Snow is just 18 years old and a student at the Academy. He's been chosen to be a mentor in the 10th Hunger Games, and his assigned tribute is a young girl from District 12 named Lucy Gray Baird.

Lucy Gray is a talented singer, and Snow is immediately drawn to her. But as the Games progress, Snow begins to realize that there is more to Lucy Gray than meets the eye. She's not just a pawn in his game she's a force to be reckoned with.

What can we expect from the book?

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is sure to be a thrilling and thought-provoking read. Collins is a master storyteller, and she's sure to keep us on the edge of our seats from beginning to end.
