New ministers Ireland




The Irish government has unveiled a new cabinet following the resignation of the previous Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar. The new government is led by Micheál Martin, who will serve as Taoiseach for the next two and a half years.

The new cabinet includes a number of new faces, including seven women. This is the first time that there have been more women than men in the Irish cabinet.

The new ministers include:

  • Leo Varadkar - Tánaiste (Deputy Prime Minister) and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment
  • Simon Coveney - Minister for Foreign Affairs and Defence
  • Paschal Donohoe - Minister for Finance
  • Heather Humphreys - Minister for Social Protection
  • Norma Foley - Minister for Education
  • Stephen Donnelly - Minister for Health
  • Catherine Martin - Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media
  • Eamon Ryan - Minister for Climate Action, Communication Networks and Transport
  • Darragh O'Brien - Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage
  • Helen McEntee - Minister for Justice
  • Charlie Flanagan - Minister for the Environment, Climate and Communications

The new government faces a number of challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic, the economic fallout from the pandemic, and the ongoing Brexit negotiations.

The government has said that its priorities will be to protect public health, support the economy, and build a more sustainable future for Ireland.
