Next eclipse after 2024

Are you ready for the next eclipse?

The last total solar eclipse visible in North America was in 2017, and it was an incredible sight to behold. But if you missed out on that one, don't worry - there's another one coming up soon.

The next total solar eclipse visible in North America will be on April 8, 2024. The path of totality will stretch from Mexico through the United States and into Canada. If you're lucky enough to be in the path of totality, you'll be treated to a truly unforgettable experience.

What is an eclipse?

An eclipse occurs when one celestial body passes in front of another, blocking the light from the latter. In the case of a solar eclipse, the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun, blocking the Sun's light. This can only happen when the Moon is new, and it must be perfectly aligned with the Earth and the Sun.

What to expect during an eclipse

When a total solar eclipse occurs, the Moon completely blocks the Sun's light. This creates a beautiful and eerie darkness, and it's often possible to see the stars and planets during the eclipse.
The total eclipse will last for about 3 minutes, but the entire eclipse event, from start to finish, will last for about 4 hours. During this time, you'll see the Moon slowly move in front of the Sun, until it completely blocks the Sun's light. Then, the Moon will slowly move away from the Sun, until the Sun's light is fully restored.

How to prepare for an eclipse

If you're planning to watch the next eclipse, there are a few things you can do to prepare.

  • Find a safe place to watch. You should watch the eclipse from a place where you have a clear view of the Sun. You should also make sure that the place is safe, and that there are no trees or other obstacles that could block your view.
  • Get the right equipment. You will need a pair of eclipse glasses to view the eclipse safely. Eclipse glasses are specially designed to block out the Sun's harmful rays. You can find eclipse glasses at most hardware stores and online.
  • Be prepared for crowds. If you're planning to watch the eclipse from a popular viewing spot, be prepared for crowds. You may want to arrive early to secure a good spot.
The next eclipse is coming soon.

If you're lucky enough to be in the path of totality, be sure to take advantage of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. It's an experience that you'll never forget.
