The church also uses large stained glass windows, called Rose Windows. All of these attributes helped to set the church apart from Romanesque structures of the time. This Church became widely admired by the public and quickly became a symbol of the French nation. Nowadays, approximated 12 million people visit Notre Dame annually making it the most visited monument in Paris.

Unfortunately, Notre Dame de Paris suffered a recent fire on April 15 of this year. Some 500 firefighters battled the blaze to save a large portion of the building and reconstruction is being planned.
