Shot Put, Discus And Sushi King Justin Doty Leads Western To Bay County Crown

ESSEXVILLE, MI – Justin Doty isn't afraid to concede he thinks with his stomach.

Sitting on the doorstep of one of Bay City Western's marquee olympic style events records – the disk mark set by state champion Matt Costello in 2012 – Doty can't resist the urge to let the size of his potential accomplishment hit home.

"That would mean a ton - it would mean a sushi supper with Coach Nesbitt," he said. "That is the thing that he guaranteed, and it's been extremely useful."

Spurred by hunger and being at his best, Doty helped power Western to its twelfth back to back group title at the Bay County Track and Field Championships on Friday. Western (192) pulled away from Bay City Central (72), have Essexville Garber (48), John Glenn (28) and Pinconning (9) in the yearly occasion.

Doty set the vibe for the young men, clearing the shot put (50-11.5) and disk (157-5) titles. The Warriors posted 1-2-3 completions in every occasion to incorporate a day and a half focuses in the pits.

"He's assisted a great deal in the pits this year," Nesbitt said of his Grand Valley State University-bound hurler. "He's dealing with his own abilities, however he's aiding the children who don't have a great deal of involvement.

"He's a wonderful child and different children need to associate with him. Yet, the pleasant thing is he's serious once he gets around there."

Ambria Nagel and Karissa Picard each caught two occasions, with Nagel taking the 1600, Picard winning the 800 and the two consolidating with Marin Stevens and Shea Walli to win the 1600 hand-off. Cassidy Jankens was champ in the 3200 while Kylie Fredenburg, Rachel Musser, McKenzie Richards and Emma Rajewski took the 3200 hand-off.
