Lehigh Valley Flashback Sept. 2: In 1967, Catasauqua's Larry Miller Leads USA Over Japan At World University Games 

A glance back at Lehigh Valley sports stories over the course of the years from Sept. 2.

2005: Junior Robbie Frey, making his first varsity start, sets a Lehighton single-game hurrying record with 324 yards on 27 conveys in a 35-21 win at Marian Catholic. Frey, who had two score runs including one of 92 yards, breaks Joe Semanoff's kid sign of 315. 

1994: Dieruff establishes a school scoring record in a 61-24 nonleague football triumph over Neshaminy. John Flamish runs for 220 yards and five scores on 19 conveys, and Eric Freeman runs for 105 yards on 10 conveys as the Huskies, who had established the standard with 60 focuses against Allen in 1967, scramble for 400 yards. 

1994: Lehighton travels past Panther Valley 29-7 to introduce lead trainer Dave Parsons with his 100th triumph (100-44-2 of every 14 seasons). 

1972: On the day practice starts for fall sports, 25 mentors at Phillipsburg High School present their acquiescences over "unacceptable dealings" between the Coaches Association and the region's Athletic Association.

1967: Catasauqua High graduate Larry Miller, a lesser at North Carolina, scores 20 focuses to help the U.S. Defeat Japan 118-38 in the World University Games in Tokyo. The American group proceeded to win the gold decoration with a 91-38 triumph over Brazil. Mill operator found the middle value of 9.1 focuses per game during the competition. Notwithstanding Miller, the U.S. Group included Wes Unseld, Butch Beard and Jo White. 

1955: Billy McGhee's grand slam and seven RBIs help Allentown to a 15-4 success over Albany and guarantee the Redbirds their first-since forever Eastern League season finisher compartment.
