Armed Gang Target Sports Shop

UPDATE An armed gang targeted a sports shop - then escaped in the manager's luxury car.

Three men, one wielding a knife, struck at Alpine Extreme in Bolton Road, Westhoughton, at just before 7pm today.

Witnesses say that as the gang tried to escape in the car, a worker at a nearby garage tried to stop them by shattering a window with a bat. There are also unconfirmed reports that an off-duty police officer, at the adjacent garage at the time of the incident, chased the gang as they sped off in the Audi.
