Cañete's demise was affirmed by his child, Gerald, in a meeting with SunStar Cebu on August 23.
Gerald, who is Cañete's beneficiary to the Doce Pares bunch and the leader VP of the Philippine Eskrima Kali Arnis Federation (Pekaf), said he and his family were shocked by his dad's abrupt passing.
"It was startling. Indeed, even my dad had been attempting to follow how he became ill with Covid-19," Gerald said.
