Dave and Mary Shoji are no aliens to the Olympics, having watched children Erik and Kawika win bronze in men's volleyball in the 2016 Rio Games. This time, they say it's hard to sit and watch from home. 

"It is testing, definitely it's truly frustrating that we can't be there just as different guardians that we've become companions with," Dave said. 

Four-time World Surf League Women's World Championship Tour victor Carissa Moore is in her first Olympics. Like the Shoji's, her father Chris assumed a fundamental part in her riding profession.
