Dark Caps star Glenn Philips – out of the Pakuranga Cricket Club – was named Internationalist of the Year at the Howick Sports Awards 2021 on Thursday.

The honors evening, held at Pakuranga United Rugby Club, went "truly well", said grants coordinator, Pakuranga United Rugby Club activities director Amanda Dyason. Around 160 individuals joined in.

"Olympian boardsailor Barbara Kendall – who was brought up in Bucklands Beach – was an incredible speaker and was exquisite having her folks their too just as Bruce (likewise an Olympian)," Dyason said.

"Wendy Meyer again worked effectively as MC and the stand-apart champs for me were Revill's Boxing Gym as Club of the Year, Howick Pakuranga Hockey Premier Men's as Team of the Year and (cricketer) Glenn Philips as Internationalist of the Year. He wasn't in participation as he playing cricket in the UK.

"There are such countless gifted people locally."

Administration to Sport and Volunteers were the two classifications wherein all beneficiaries were recognized. Porterhouse Grill in Pakuranga supported vouchers for the 11 volunteers grants.

Howick Local Board seat Adele White said, "What an honor it was for individuals from our Board to recognize the ability of our nearby games individuals, and those mentors, chairmen and volunteers who support our numerous games clubs.

"We never neglect to be astonished at the degree of ability and responsibility of the chosen people at this yearly occasion."
