I'm not alone in my obsession. Rodrigo's debut single, released in January 2021, quickly became a global smash, topping the charts in multiple countries and earning her a Grammy Award for Best New Artist. Her follow-up album, Sour, was released in May 2021 and was met with similar critical and commercial success.
So what is it about Olivia Rodrigo that has captured the hearts of so many?
For me, it's her raw and honest songwriting. Rodrigo doesn't shy away from difficult topics, such as heartbreak, anxiety, and body image. She writes about these experiences in a way that is both relatable and deeply personal.
I also love Rodrigo's voice. It's a powerful and soulful voice that can convey a wide range of emotions. She can sing a heartbreakingly sad song one moment and then turn around and sing an upbeat pop song the next.
