Essential Baby Skincare Products Your Newborn Needs

Every mother is concerned for their little ones, and wants to provide them with the best. Many newly turned moms know little about the skin care of their infants and they sometimes in ignorance use adult soaps and creams, that’s not at all advised. Before buying any baby product, you must be aware of their ingredients and prefer organic baby products which don't hurt their skin in any way. You can also ask your pediatrician about a skin care routine and recommended baby products to use for them. Few are essential, must be in every mother’s baby bag, they’re listed below for your convenience and guidance.

1-   Petroleum jelly

Petroleum jelly, also commonly known as Vaseline, is actually a very good baby skin care product. They come specially for babies which are triple purified and have no irritating chemicals which cause trouble to the baby's skin. It is hypo-allergenic and non-comedogenic which doesn’t clog the pores. This jelly can be used to treat diaper rashes, minor cuts, help in treating circumcision sites and provide protection from wet diapers, just like a good rash cream, which is absolutely safe to use.

2-   Baby oil

Baby oil is used for regular body massage but not as a moisturizer because a newborn's skin can’t absorb it properly. However, a baby's body massage is really important and beneficial because it strengthens the baby's bones, muscles, and stimulates the nerve cells which help in growth and development. It also helps babies fall into deep sleep naturally. Baby oil must be an organic body care product with natural oils like coconut oil, almond oil, avocado oil or chamomile oil too.

3-   Baby powder

Baby powder is mostly used by mothers after giving bath to their babies, sparingly put under the arms, under neck, chest and back too. This makes the baby’s skin petal soft and smooth but the prime function is to absorb excess moisture from the baby's skin and folds which would develop skin irritation and rashes too. although, it’s advised to use talc-free baby powders and keep them away from the face and genitals( private parts). Organic baby products must be enriched with natural oils and ingredients for safety concerns.

4-   Moisturizer

Moisturizers are used to soothe and supple your dry, patchy and flaky skin along with locking the moisture of your skin making it hydrated and plump. They include all types of creams, lotions, serums or ointments such as petroleum jelly as well. New born baby skin is thin and sensitive, which can lose moisture easily. Look for ingredients like organic cocoa and shea butter, essential oils, milk proteins and other natural oils that can help in combating baby’s dry skin condition very quickly. However, avoid chemical infused products to avoid any skin issues.

5-   Baby soap/shampoos

Soap bars and shampoos are used to clean and wash babies while giving a bath to them but the regular ones cause more dryness after that, aggravating psoriasis or eczema. So pick baby soaps and shampoos that are preferably liquid formulae which are neutral in PH balance, which doesn’t disturb baby’s PH level of skin. Also prefer a formula that’s alcohol free, doesn't have fragrances and is tear free too which doesn’t irritate eyes at all.  Remember using an organic moisturizer after giving them a bath to lock moisture.

6-    Baby wipes

Many mothers doubt whether baby wipes are safe or not? They’re definitely safe to use, even on a baby's face because they’re specially designed keeping the baby’s skin in view. they’re sterile, damp and gentle to baby’s delicate skin and it’s an essential for every mother, they must always be near to you. You can use them while changing diapers, cleaning face after feed or meal, cleaning messy hands or runny nose too. They include natural baby skin friendly ingredients keeping skin smooth and nice. Prefer wipes that’re eco-friendly and biodegradable, so they decompose quickly and naturally.

7-   Baby rash ointment

A cream/ ointment that must be in every mother's baby bag or in the nearest drawers because the chances are quite high that the baby will get rashes if you don’t layer it with ointments before packing the diaper. These diaper creams and ointments become a barrier between wetness, bacteria and prevent rashes, allergies which keeps skin secure, soft, healed and healthy. Wait for some time to air-dry that area, so that moisture doesn’t lean to an irritating diaper rash, then apply a thick layer of ointment before packing the diapers.

Take away

New born babies have very delicate, sensitive skin and special care is needed for them. Products with chemicals and artificial ingredients can cause irritation and allergies to them, therefore it’s advised to use organic baby products with proper care. So be careful before selecting them, like they must be fragrance free or talc-free or free from harsh chemicals too.
