Partick Thistle

Much like Partick Jags fans themselves, the history of the club is an amalgamation of two separate entities. The first of these was Partick FC, formed by a group of local businessmen in 1876. The second was Thistle FC, founded by members of the local YMCA in 1881.
For more than 20 years, the two clubs would remain separate entities, despite sharing Firhill Stadium as their home ground. It wasn’t until 1903 that the two clubs decided to merge, creating a new club named Partick Thistle FC.
The club would struggle in the early years, only winning their first major trophy, the Scottish Cup, in 1921. They would go on to win the competition again in 1971 and 1973, as well as lifting the Scottish League Cup in 1972.
In recent years, the club has struggled both on and off the field. They were relegated to the Scottish Championship in 2013 and have been unable to return to the top flight since. The club also went into administration in 2017 but was rescued by a group of fans who formed a new company to take over the running of the club.
Despite their recent struggles, Partick Thistle remain a popular club with a loyal fanbase. The club has a strong tradition of community involvement and is seen as a vital part of the local area.
