PHIL SWERN: A CELEBRATION OF LIFE & LEGACY

I first met Phil Swern at a party in the early 2000s. He was a tall, lanky guy with a mop of curly hair and a warm smile. We talked for hours that night about everything from music to politics to our dreams for the future. I was immediately drawn to his intelligence, his passion, and his infectious enthusiasm.
Over the years, I got to know Phil better and better. We worked together on several projects, and I saw firsthand his dedication to social justice and his commitment to making the world a better place. He was a tireless advocate for the poor and the marginalized, and he always put the needs of others before his own.
Phil was also a gifted writer and musician. He had a way with words that could make even the most complex issues seem clear and accessible. And his music was soulful and moving, with a raw honesty that spoke straight to the heart.
In 2015, Phil was diagnosed with cancer. He fought the disease with courage and grace, and he never gave up hope. Even when his body was failing him, his spirit remained strong.
Phil passed away in 2017, but his legacy lives on. He was a true mensch, a mensch in the most profound sense of the word. He was a man of integrity, compassion, and unwavering optimism. He made the world a better place, and he will be deeply missed.
Phil Swern was a special person who touched the lives of everyone who knew him. He was a true friend, a loving husband and father, and a tireless advocate for social justice. He will be deeply missed, but his legacy will continue to inspire us all.
Here are some of my favorite memories of Phil:
*
The time we went to see Bruce Springsteen in concert and Phil danced his heart out.
*
The time we worked together on a campaign to raise money for a local homeless shelter.
*
The time Phil gave me the best advice I've ever received: "Always follow your heart."
*
The time Phil made me laugh so hard I cried.
*
The time Phil told me he was proud of me.
*
I will always cherish these memories, and I will always be grateful for the friendship of Phil Swern.
If you knew Phil, I encourage you to share your memories of him in the comments.
